Meet Our Team
Holly Swanson, Owner
Holly was introduced to Pilates through her mom! She took her to a session when she was home from a college visit and she loved it!
After testing out the corporate world, Holly decided to work for her mom’s studio. She eventually bought it after seeing that this was how she wanted to help people discover what their bodies are capable of doing.
After years of developing her own teaching style, Holly began certifying teachers and continue training them as Co-Founder of The Lab Pilates.

Holly holds certifications from the PhysicalMind Institute® (2006) as well as Stott Pilates® (2008) in the contemporary Pilates world, and has completed over 200 hours of continuing education in Classical Pilates though various institutions.
After completing coursework for the Pilates integration for the Postural Restoration Institute® (PRI), Holly focuses heavily on pre/post rehab and helping heal those nagging injuries you thought you had to live with the rest of your life.

Maggie Ferrell, Instructor
Maggie began taking Pilates classes at a young age with her mom to cross train for her dance practice. Her love of Pilates grew over the years and continued into college, where she majored in dance education. As part of her degree, Maggie had the privilege of taking detailed Pilates mat and reformer courses all four years.
Today, Maggie loves to work with a wide variety of clients. From the athlete to the former athlete, to clients that are pre/post rehab, Maggie pursues finding ways to make everyone feel stronger.

In addition to her BFA in Dance Education from The Ohio State University, Maggie has completed multiple Pilates based trainings. Notability, The Lab’s 500 hour comprehensive training with Holly Swanson and Jacquelyn Brennen. Prior to the lab, she completed the Pilates Proworks teacher certification program and has since continued to expand her knowledge with specified programs. She has completed Dr. Sarah Duvall’s Pregnancy and Postpartum Corrective Exercise Specialist program, Pilates for Osteoarthritis with Polestar Pilates, and a number of other workshops focused on working with specific athletes such as golfers.

You can always find Maggie walking around the city with her dog, Lyla! She also loves to explore new restaurants with friends and family and of course cheering on the Buckeyes!
Alessandra, Instructor
Originally from New Jersey, Alessandra graduated with a BFA in Ballet from the University of Utah, and then moved to Chicago to dance professionally.
Upon moving to Chicago, she found Pilates as a way to condition my body and prevent and rehabilitate injuries. She completed The Lab Pilates Training 500-hour Comprehensive Course in May of 2021. Alessandra loves helping clients achieve their goals and seeing a difference in their lives while practicing Pilates.

Alessandra completed The Lab Pilates Training in May of 2021. She incorporates her dance experience into her teaching style, focusing on strengthening the power house.

Alessandra dances professionally at Visceral Dance Chicago. When she is not teaching and dancing, she enjoys spending time with friends and hanging out with her doggo.
Alex Blaze, Instructor
Alex Blaze (feel free to call her “Blaze”, everyone else does) has been a student of pilates for over 10 years and completed her training with The Lab Pilates Training 500-hour Comprehensive Course. Alex began her pilates journey as a way to rehabilitate her pelvic floor from her first endometriosis surgery in 2008 and has continued on 8 surgeries later.
Alex is passionate about helping fellow desk jockeys (Alex works full time in tech) with mobility and is passionate about pelvic floor pain management. She believes fitness is for everyone and works to make sure everyone feels successful in her classes.

In addition to completing The Lab Pilates Training, Alex attended the University of Illinois (go Illini) where she graduated with duel degrees in Finance and Business administration. Alex has an approachable and accommodating exercise style for all body types and abilities!

When Alex isn’t working her day job or teaching pilates, you can find her traveling with her husband on Scuba or Ski trips, spending time with her dog Izzy, or reading a book (she’s on track to finish 125 books in 2023).
Anna Tripp, Instructor
Anna’s love for pilates and teaching runs in her blood. She was introduced to Pilates at a very young age as her Mom was a certified mat and reformer Pilates instructor and actually had a reformer machine in their living room!
After graduating from Miami of Ohio and receiving a degree in Marketing, Anna moved to Chicago and began to find her own roots in various Pilates studios including Core Chicago Pilates. Anna’s intention is to help her clients find joy for movement in their own body while growing stronger mentally and physically.

Anna has completed The Lab’s 500 Comprehensive Teacher Training Program. Anna values working alongside her colleges to discover new approaches to bring into her own practice.

Hopping into another instructor’s class, petting any golden retriever she can find or curled up on the couch with a good book!
April Torneby, Instructor
April began Pilates back in college while she was working towards her BFA in Dance at Cornish College of the Arts.
Many of her favorite professors were also Certified Pilates Instructors with a wealth of information about the body. Pilates helped her work past overuse injuries and become more in tune with her body.

Aside from her BFA in Dance, April completed The Lab Pilates Training 500-hour Comprehensive Course. She is also certified to teach indoor cycling, TRX, and barre. April has been teaching for over 12 years and looks forward to many more.
April focuses her Pilates sessions around educating clients to better understand their own body. April believes Pilates is a place to challenge and explore our body’s potential with patience and curiosity. April continues to deepen her understanding and education through workshops and courses on healthy joint movement, optimal breathing mechanics, building overall strength and mobility, and using mindfulness as a part of creating longevity with fitness. April has continued education in courses and workshops by Sarah Duvall, Katie St Clair, and Andy Galpin.

Liza Wolin, Instructor
Liza stumbled into Pilates after years of dancing until college. Her sister who also was a dancer was always a fan of Mat Pilates. After she tried Pilates with the addition of the equipment, Liza was hooked.
Liza loves Pilates not only because it is a safe workout for basically everyone, but she believes there is nothing like the mind/body connection of the practice!

Liza completed The Lab Pilates Training 500-hour Comprehensive Course, as well as her certification from Pilates Pro Works. Her most recent continuing education is in Pre/Post Natal Pilates and Exercise.

Liza likes to cover all spinal mechanics and the whole body in class, but her favorite go-to is all things abs, especially obliques!
Mandy Milligan, Instructor
Mandy started taking Pilates as injury rehabilitation for dance. When she noticed how Pilates changed her body and helped with her craft, she decided she wanted to share that with others.
She likes to take a creative, problem-solving, contemporary approach to Pilates with her clients. The most rewarding part of her job is helping people rediscover their body and gain confidence through movement.

Mandy is comprehensively certified through the National Pilates Certification Program and holds a BFA in Ballet performance from the University of Cincinnati. She also is also trained in Postural Restoration Institutes pre and post-natal corrective exercise system, NeuroMovement, Madeline Blacks gait patterning and much more. She also became certified in GYROKINESIS in 2023, a mindbody movement system created by Juliu Horvath which utilizes seated and mat exercises to spiral and open the spine and joints without the use of equipment.

When she's not in the studio Mandy is usually dancing in rehearsals or performances with one of the many professional contemporary dance projects she is in. She also enjoys hiking, weightlifting and yoga.
Olivia Santelli, Instructor
Through learning to manage her mental health, Olivia found her connection to her body through mindful movement. She began her Pilates practice in college to supplement strength training.
After graduating from Michigan State University, Olivia completed The Lab Pilates Training 500-hour Comprehensive Course. She strives to help others connect deeper to their minds and bodies through Pilates!
Sage Miller, Instructor
Sage studied Pilates on and off growing up, and decided to pursue it more seriously during her time at Cornish College.
Her interest in anatomy and the mechanics of movement naturally led her to step into the world of Pilates. Pilates offers new insights and connections to movement and she loves sharing that knowledge with others. Sage’s approach to movement focuses on postural improvement to help clients get rid of any discomfort or chronic injuries.

Sage holds a BFA in Dance from Cornish College of the Arts. She received her first mat certification during her time at Cornish, and received her 500-hour comprehensive teacher training from the Lab Pilates Training with Jacquelyn Brennen and Holly Swanson in Fall of 2021. Sage has continued her education with workshops like The Biomechanics of Breath from Katie St.Clair Fitness. Sage loves to work alongside her colleges and physical therapists to discover new approaches to bring into her own practice.

Signe Knutson, Instructor
Signe was studying dance at the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point and was first introduced to Pilates through taking an elective course.
The challenge of Pilates supported her dance movement and made her want to learn more. Signe’s interest peaked after moving to Chicago and researching how to become an instructor.

Through connections at her university and the Chicago Pilates community, Signe found The Lab Pilates Training 500-hour Comprehensive Course in 2021.
Due to her dance training, she loves pushing the boundaries and getting creative with Pilates movement, while staying true to the classical conditioning and alignment work it provides.
She has a special interest in corrective exercises and has continued her education by completing Dr. Sarah Duvall’s Pregnancy and Postpartum Corrective Exercise Specialist (PCES) program along with other corrective exercise trainings, like The Human Matrix by Zac Cupples.

Walking down to the lake with her Yorkie, Tillie, is always a great way to get some fresh air and play time! Signe loves to bring a mat and work in a Pilates flow, or just relax in the sun.
Tayllor Williams, Instructor
Tayllor was introduced to Pilates during her time living in Nashville. After her first Reformer class, she quickly fell in love with how Pilates impacted her body and mind.
When Tayllor and her husband moved to Chicago in late 2022, she decided to pursue her Pilates certification through The Lab, joining the team at Core Chicago at the end of 2023.

In 2017, Tayllor graduated with a Bachelor’s in Communications from The University of Tennessee.

Tayllor is a passionate gluten-free foodie and is always scheming on her next meal. When she isn’t doing Pilates, you can find her exploring (Chicago and beyond!) and eating her way around town with her husband, Colin.
