Holly Swanson, Owner comes from a long background of movement and has always been active in athletics. Starting at the age of two, Holly was an accomplished gymnast for most of her childhood. Beginning in college, she was introduced to Pilates after attending a session with her mother during a visit home. Shortly after her return to Chicago, she completed her Pilates certifications in both Stott Pilates and the PhysicalMind Institute, including a concentration in breast cancer rehabilitation through the Pink Ribbon Program. In her spare time, Holly competes regularly in triathlons, cycling and running events.
Joan Swanson, founder of Core Chicago Pilates, has been teaching Pilates since 1999. A native Chicagoan, Joan retired as a professional cellist to raise her family. She became a bodywork specialist in the Ohasiatsu Method, training in Evanston and later starting a practice in the method. Joan became interested in movement and trained at Leslie Total Fitness and at Elements in Motion before opening Core Chicago Pilates. She is also certified in the Gyrotonic® Method of movement invented by Juliu Horvath. Her interests include training for triathlons, biking, volunteering and spending time with her family.
Roberta Freier, a California native, has resided in Chicago since 1996, where she enjoys teaching private and group Pilates sessions. Roberta is certified through the PhysicalMind Institute and has been teaching since 2002. When she is not teaching she is busy maintaining a performing career as a violinist in Broadway shows including Wicked.
Katy Wert, joined Core in 2008. Orginally from the Western Suburbs of Illinois, she now lives in downtown Chicago. After taking several spin classes, she decided to get certified in SPINNING® and began teaching classes at a local facility to friends and family. Katy is certified through SPINNING® and has been teaching since 2006. Outside of teaching group spin classes, she works in sales for Clear Channel Radio.
